Read this before you start advertising your music

“Not enough streams? Do THIS!”

If you’ve spent so much as 10 minutes on Instagram lately then you will have undoubtably seen an advert playing on your entitlement to tonnes of streams, all about how important it is to know how to ”market your music”.

And that you need to buy some course in order to learn how to do that.

They’re everywhere.

And some of them are actually very good! (Many of them are terrible)

What are you marketing?

But it has become apparent to us that with the abundance of attention being put into the release of a song and how to tell the world about it, artists miss one crucial thing….

They haven’t really thought much about the product they are advertising… their music!

Musician First. Marketer Second.

It sounds kind of obvious, right? But it seems to be spoken about less and less.

Your music is king. It always will be.

Think of it this way… are you actually ready for the results of a successful advertising campaign?

Because a good campaign will bring in a lot of new ears that are listening to you.

Well, if what they are listening to doesn’t represent you as an artist particularly well?

Then you’ve just let a lot of people know that your music isn’t up to scratch. And you’ve paid for it!

Do you think they’re going to turn into fans and eagerly await your next release?

However

We are certainly not saying that learning the skills to market your music isn’t important. Of course it is.

But it has to come second to homing your craft as a songwriter and creating amazing sounding music. No Facebook Ad campaign in the world can make a song sound better.

Let’s just rephrase this to sum up…

If you’re not happy with your music, then don’t spend time telling as many people as you can that they should listen to it.

Big Love,

Jump & Turner
